We are always looking for like-minded individuals who love to express their voice. Allow GARVEY MAGAZINE to be YOUR platform to display YOUR stories/articles and photography.

Staff Writers will have the opportunity to have their articles published within our print/digital issues of GARVEY MAGAZINE. Articles with common interest content will have the best chance at getting published.

Bloggers are the heart beat of GARVEY MAGAZINE and will submit articles to be featured as online content for our audience.

What is required to apply?

THE INTERNS:

Staff Writer/Blogger

(REMOTE POSITION)

Will contribute related news pieces (150-300 words). News pieces can focus on an array of topics including, but not limited to: music and film reviews, up-to-date news (sports, lifestyle, world news, etc.), interviews (when applicable), etc.

Must be able to proofread content and work on special projects as needed. Intern staff writers will contribute original articles on a quarterly basis with an opportunity to get work published.

What is required to apply?

-Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, English, Business, History, Communications, Music, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or similar field

-Strong organizational and communication skills with keen attention to detail and problem solving skills

-Knowledge of MS Office applications

In order to be successful in this role you must have a recording device, daily internet access and a cell phone.

Photographer

All individuals with an interest in photography are encouraged to apply. We are seeking talented and experienced Editorial + Event Photographers. Photographers may also specialize in urban lifestyle, hair, beauty, swimsuit and fashion photography.

Graphic Designer

HBCU Representative

(Locations: ACCREDITED 4-YEAR HBCUs)

This position is open to all HBCU students with an interest in promoting, networking and recruiting. HBCU Representatives will serve as a liaison between GARVEY MAGAZINE and their respected institution. Tasks may include the following:

-Represent GARVEY Media Group + GARVEY MAGAZINE at campus related events

-Assist with planning on-campus college related events

-Volunteer with community projects

-Keeping GARVEY MAGAZINE informed with on-campus news and upcoming events (w/ the potential of being featured)

-Attend monthly meetings via phone and/or video conference

What is required to apply?

-Enrolled at least 12 hours at an accredited HBCU institute

-Majoring in Business, Fashion, Marketing, English, Biology, Engineering, Art/Graphic Designing, Culinary Arts, etc.

Brand Ambassador/Social Media Rep

(REMOTE POSITION)

Brand Ambassadors/Social Media Reps are one of the key components for marketing GARVEY MAGAZINE to the general public. Responsibilities include promoting the brand at local events and on social media.

What is required to apply?

-Great personality!

-No private social media pages! Must have a social media page on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter that is not private.

-Must have an active following

-You must be able to actively promote the brand, represent the brand and what it stands for.

-Able to post content per the scheduled requirements

Street Team Member

(Locations: Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; New Orleans, LA; New York, New York; Los Angeles, CA; Oakland, CA; Baton Rouge, LA; Tallahassee, FL; Miami, FL; Dallas, TX; Austin, TX; Jackson, MS; St. Louis, MO; Detroit, MI)

Street team members are just that…OUR TEAM IN THE STREETS! Active street team members will participate in spreading awareness of the brand and/or any affiliated events. One will pass out flyers and promotional items to interested parties as well as conduct in social media conversations.

What is required to apply?

(NOTE: Do note that intern positions shown above are UNPAID (unless specified); the benefits of joining our team are experience, exposure, and a foot in the door into the media industry. Prior experience not required; degrees in Journalism, Creative Writing, or similar fields are a plus. Our Intern positions are best for high school students, college students, or individuals with little experience in the field. STAFF POSITIONS:

Social Media Account Manager

(Job Type: Contract. Remote position.)

We are currently searching for an experienced Social Media Account Manager who is fluent in Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for business purposes. An ideal candidate would possess a high level of professionalism and is extremely detail oriented.

Responsibilities:
  • Exceed expectations by establishing and engaging with a targeted social media following while facilitating regular updates in a strategic manner
  • Manage multiple campaigns, clients, and contractors simultaneously
  • Design, and implement valuable social media campaigns for our clients
  • Execute strategy in a busy work environment
What is required to apply?

Our journalists are responsible for bringing interesting content ideas to the table, able to thoroughly research, conduct interviews, and write short/long articles that are in the appropriate tone of our publication.

Print Journalist

Print Journalists (PJs) work on investigative projects/articles that are featured on a quarterly basis with GARVEY MAGAZINE. PJs are expected to meet quarterly deadlines for print related articles to be featured in GARVEY MAGAZINE Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter issue.

Digital Journalist/Correspondent

Digital Journalists (DJs) work in a more fast-paced environment. DJs will be responsible for creating content inspired by breaking news. Articles need to be timely, accurate, and shareable as it would be featured online.

ART EDITOR/DESIGN DIRECTOR

The ART EDITOR/DESIGN DIRECTOR is the key creative person in the publications team. Art Director is responsible for organization and commission of all the artwork that will be included in the publication. The ART EDITOR will deal with the GARVEY Editorial team, as well as outsourcing photographers, commission images with picture editor; outsource illustrations if needed; basically responsible for all the creative aspects of the job.
